Retired auditor, Arnie Shal, has read the entire 350 pages of the City's Consultant on the bayfront boat slips at Coachman Park.
HERE IS THE FINE PRINT - WHAT THE CITY ISN'T TELLING YOU
* Boat slip rentals will not pay for the project unless ---
- there is 100% occupancy for all forty years
- exaggerated income from marine gas sales are included
- there is no cost overrun as we have seen with Cleveland Street, Beach Walk, and the Roundabout (to name a few)
* The taxpayers have already put up $362,000 for the boat slips and another million of tax money from downtown is pledged, plus a possible addition of State or Federal tax money. HOW CAN THEY SAY IT WON'T COST THE TAX PAYERS???
* The boat slips will take away the public's last remaining open water view to provide boat storage for 141 wealthy boat owners. (At the same time they are removing public parking places on South Clearwater Beach to provide wealthy visitors with an open water view.)
*Coachman Park should be improved for the use of all the citizens, not just 1/10 of 1%. A beautiful and useful Coachman Park would do more to revitalize downtown than wet boat storage. (Visit Philippe Park in Safety Harbor and see the well used waterfront park, with not a boat slip in sight.)
*It makes no sense to say bayfront boat slips will revitalize downtown. How can 141 boat owners, visiting their boats occasionally, revitalize downtown?
YOUR NO VOTE ON THE BAYFRONT BOAT SLIPS, MARCH 13, WILL PROTECT THE CITIZENS OF CLEARWATER FROM ONE MORE DRAIN ON THEIR TAX DOLLARS!
